My 415-D has the lights on the wheel fairings, one on each side. One
points
slightly more downward than does the other.

I kind of like the landing gear installation (with one on each gear leg)
since
people in front of me can see my bank angle. And, I have some apparent
size
and
reality rather than being a formless point in the sky.

I've heard it said there's enough drag from this installation to slow you
down
some small amount compared to a wing installation. Now, if you put a
light
in
each wing tip, they'd think you were an airliner coming toward them and
give
you
some real respect.

I've heard of a couple of people encountering idiot FAA inspectors who
refused
to sign off even a well installed wing light installation. Whatever you
do,
ask
around about the more reasonable FAA people, make your drawings and take
them to
the right person __before__ you cut metal.
