Hey Brian:

Here's my comments on your post. Hope it helps.

to
help me out?

I think you have two possible:

The easy one first: Rigging.

The easy way to check for rigging on a coupe is to pull it down a straight
line.

Put the nose wheel on a straight line. Use a tow bar to pull the coupe,
by
the nose wheel, down the line. Pull for about 20 feet. Then look at all
you control surfaces. They should be at a setting for straight and level
flight. If they are not, the rigging needs to be adjusted.

The second and hard fix: Nose gear bushings.

The single fork nose gear has two brass bushings. One on the bottom,
(415-34133), you should be able to see it. The second is inside,
(34086-OS). These bushings wear, usually on the back side. They both
will
need to be replaced.

I would suggest that you talk to Lee at Skyport. The bushings are
available from him. You will need someone good with a press to push in
internal one out and put the new one in.

The big problem you may have here is damage to the main, internal shaft.
If the bushings have been worn for some time the internal shaft will have
indentations from the wear. You will need to replace it, if it is not
within tolerance.

There's a repair memo, #41. I would suggest that you get it from Lee.
(You
should just spend the $20 and get all the memos).

While you have it taken apart, replace the oil retainer (415-34126-1), "O"
ring (AN6227-31) and bumper (415-34087). You may also find that several
of
the screws need replacing. There should also be a brass spacer on the
bottom of the steering assembly, (replace it).

My suggestion (off the record) is to disassemble and take it to a local
machine shop, when you have all the parts. They can press all the stuff
back together and adjust or MAKE the bushings. (Tolerance are spelled out
in Memo 41).

I hope your problem is just he rigging, but I'll put money on the
bushings.

Jack
