Hi Chris,
Fisrst of all, "Welcome Aboard"! It's always nice to get some new
blood
and new ideas into our
group.
As for Skyport, yes they are still in business and going strong.

Where do you live? EOC is also broken down into State divisions
(wings)
where you can get together
on a more personal basis and have local area Fly-ins, picnics, meetings
etc.
When you receive your first
"Coupe Capers" magazine (and I'm sure you'll enjoy it) look on the outside
of the back cover to locate
your State Wing Leader. Contact that person and let them know that you're
interested in meeting the rest
of the coupers in your area and doing some flying with them.
I'm the Wing Leader for Oregon, we are pretty active and always
looking
for more 'Coupers' to join
our group. I put out a monthly newsletter and we have a monthly "Fly-In"
meeting/luncheon as well as
other misc flyins to other groups. Yesterday we toured the 'US Naval
Station Tillamook' Blimp
Hangar (the largest wooden structure in the world), museum, and of course
the gift shop. We had lunch
there in their conference room which they set up for us, showed pictures,
told stories and just had a
really good time in getneral. I was a bit dissapointed at the small
turnout
as the weather was perfect
(severe clear), nice and warm but not hot. Those who did show up however
had
a great time.
Next month we're hosting our 6th annual N.W. Ercoupe Fly-in 'Picnic'
here at a private 'grass strip'
airport. If you're anywhere near this area (or like longer cross country
flights, get back to me and
I'll give you the details. Or you can look it up on either the Official
EOC
net calendar or on this
groups calendar at <ercoupers.com>. You are, of course invited to attend.
As for the 'bubble shield', some folks like them and some don't.
"Beauty
is in the eyes of the
beholder", some people think they look nice while others (like me) don't
care for the 'bulgie' look that
just doesn't seem to 'fit-in' with the rest of the Ercoupe lines. I've
heard
a couple of guys say that
they lost a little speed when they changed to the bubble and wished they
hadn't changed. Mine is the
original 'flat' shield and if I ever have to replace it I'll get another
flat one. I know one of our
members has a bubble now and wants to go back to the flat one but can't
without some major work because
when you install the bubble you have to cut away some of the metal in
order
to make the bubble fit. Now
to change back he'll have to have some metal framing re-installed. (I
don't
know this first hand, but
I've heard it from others as well, and now they're stuck with the bubble
and
wish they weren't.) Others
I've talked to who have the bubble shield say they like it just fine.
I've never had a 'bubble' shield, so all this is just what I've heard
from other owners. Personally,
I like the looks of the flat shield better so that's how I'll keep my
415C.
Everyone is entitled to
their own opinion but listen to both sides before changing.
Again, welcome aboard and if you'll let me know where you are I'll
tell
you who your wing leader is
so you won't have to wait for your 'Coupe Capers' to come.
