HI John, Ssorry about the loss of info...suppose it was the trememdous sun spot activity ??? NASA projected there would likely be lots of power losses, communications, etc. in the northern part of N. America. We didn't see any here, thankfully. As to Ercoupe Power loss.... I would have first expected an improper float level setting, and/ or a stopped up mixture control system... where the mixture is controlled by changing pressure in the float bowl... I think. As to the float level setting, and installation of a Delrin needle...which required a weight to be added to the float lever....I think there could be some possibility of a problem here with improper weight being used, etc... As to my coupe, converted to an 85...or so the book says.....I have not checked the size of the venturi or the size of the main jet......but I do run it like an 85....I have never experienced a problem using 100 ll or Amoco auto gas....in the last 18 years. I do have about a 1/2 inch clearance between the funnel scoop and the cowl, which may allow a lower air pressure build up ???? Setting the float at extremly cold or hot temperatures may be a problem as the density of fuel does change with temperature.....Perhaps one sets the float at very cold temp; then when hot weather, the engine runs too lean ???? Boy that is far out :) ! I did experience a power failure once, tho....interesting...the first flight for Mom... As I climbed out, the engine sputtered, I pulled /Carb heat, and little happened. I closed the throttle, then reopened it slowly, and the coupe ran OK... I immediately landed. Took a look, and found the carb heat valve plate had become loose on the shaft, and with an updraft, the flap was sucked up against the carb throat...blocking the air flow. One of the 3/16 inch bolts was gone,,, but the most important thing, other than missing the bolt, was that the flap was on the carb side of the shaft, allowing the flap to move up to the carb throat, and cause problems. It should be mounted on the bottom side of the shaft, so if a bolt comes loose, the flap cannot be sucked up and block the air flow... Replaced properly with new hardware, and all has been OK since. The air box had been repaired before I got the coupe, and re-assembled improperly - no comments in the logs about it Regards, Harry Francis --------------------------------- to unsubscribe send mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ___________________________________________________________ T O P I C A http://www.topica.com/t/17 Newsletters, Tips and Discussions on Your Favorite Topics
