   There has to be a simple way to solve your problem.
 First try it without the air breather.  The breather
might be dirty and a low air flow causing the moisture
to form ice.  
   The next is there must be a small amount of water
has  passed into the carb bowl are at the entrance of
the bowl, (not passing the small screen), icing up
when freezing.  You are -2 degrees Cent. per 1000 feet
so if you are at 40 on the ground you maybe freezing
at alt.
  Last, check for a intake leak. Tighten intake hose.
Heat expand and cold makes everything loose.  Carb
gasket, has not sucked in.
