----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any
advice in this forum.]----

When I pre-flighted my coupe today, the left rudder
was displaced to left. Loose until pushed all the way
to the right, at which point, it displaced the right
rudder, the tiny bit the opposite rudder moves as
usual. After a panic over images of ruptured cables
and major repairs I discovered that the right return
spring had broken. I wish I had found that before I
removed all those access panels, although it was
encouraging to see all the cable connections intact.
In fact, the PO or someone even further down the line
had use very cheap springs that were bent to form the
hook. I temporarily 'fixed' it the same way.
So I have two questions.
1) Were can you get the 'real' spring for this
purpose. I realize that there are a couple of
aftermarket rudder pedal kits, so there may be more
than one answer. And please, I don't want to start a
flame war over whether ercoupes should have rudder
pedals at all, etc, etc,,,
2) Does anyone have a good design for gust locks to
decrease the wind strain on these components. I as yet
don't have a place to keep it out of the wind.
Thanks
Rob
