Fred there is a Continental Bulletin I believe that will allow you to use the crank. I do know you don't need the STC as the Piper Cub news letter they did carry it as an option and it did state the STC is not neccessary. Contact a Cub owner and see if he belongs to the Cub Club. Call the Club Cub in Michigan and you can probably buy the news copy that has the short article.
