David, I fly from IL to NV alot in a Alon aircoupe. I plan my flights for
2-2.5 hours, so I have lots
of fuel in case of head winds.. One good rule I follow is however high the
airport is, is how long I
want the runway to be. If I land at 5000', I would like a 5000' runway.
If
I land at a 7000' high
airport a 7000' runway. A 3000' high airport, a 3000' runway. The
highest
airport I took off was
Evanston , WY 7200' high. I rolled over 5000' before I left the ground.
The
aircoupes do well on grass,
snow and dirt, just keep the wheel pants off of them. Gene from IL
