Hi Coupe-Group;
I've got what's probably a dumb question. I'm due for an oil change on
the O-200 in the coupe and this is the first one I've done myself. Where
is this oil filter screen located on the engine block. My son, who's in
A&P school, asked some of his instructors and nobody knew for sure, but
the consensus was that it is in the casting for the oil temp probe.
There's a large nut that holds the temp probe in what appears to be a
machined adapter. The adapter is then threaded into the casting and the
casting bolted to the back of the block on the passenger side below the
right mag. I could sure use some advice on this. Is there anything
unique about cleaning the screen, or can I just use solvent and
compressed air. I saw what appeared to be a copper crush gasket between
the adapter and the casting. Does that need to be replaced, what do I
ask for, and where do I get one. Are there any old-hand tricks to keep
from getting oil all over the inside of the cowl. I plan on using a
large funnel and surgical tubing to route the oil down to a drain pan by
the nose gear but I'm open to suggestions for easier/better.

Thanks for the help.
