----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----
I guess this is no news, but I've just been reading the proposed "Sport Pilot" rules and it looks like the proposed rules will not apply to Ercoupers because our gross weight is 28 or 168 pounds over the 1232 pound limit for Sport Pilot planes. That means we have to sell our beloved coupe and find an old J-3 or Champ at 2 or 3 times the cost. My questions is this: Does anyone see any provision in the proposed rule that would allow exceptions. For instance - could a "Sport Pilot" get some sort of special dispensation which says "I agree to abide by all the "Sport Pilot" rules, fly only for recreational purposes, not fly at night, not fly in certain airspace, etc..etc.." Then can I please fly my own coupe, N3544H, instead of the J-3, which I can't afford anyway? Does anyone see any possibility of this kind of FAA ruling? Just maybe I wouldn't be so ready to sell my coupe because of loss of my medical if that were possible.
