I have a polished 415C (see http://ercoupe.com) and while it looks great when polished it is a LOT of work to maintain. When I kept it outside a polish job lasted until the next (acid) rain, i.e. about a week. Now that I have it hangarged it lasts a bit longer but the painted portions of the airplane take a quick wash to look good, I spent about 40 hours with a paid teenager last Spring to polish it and it needs it again.
The underside metal of the wings and horiz stab both have a fair amount of surface corrosion as they do not get sun and moisture condenses on them. I do not think I would get another polished airplane, it is just too much work to keep it looking good. OTOH it does save a bit of weight and every little bit helps in an Ercoupe David Abrams [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://ercoupe.com -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, December 16, 1998 9:54 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Metal or Paint? I really like unpainted 'coupes but are they practical in wet climates? Any weight benefit from unpainted 'coupes?
