I formerly owned the "cheap: Flightcom model. It got the job done fairly well I suppose. My only complaint is that they seemed to sit on the "top" of my head (sagital suture for you med/bio types). My head isn't any pointier than normal but it did bother me on flights over an hour or so. I was planning on upgrading and keeping them for passengers until some larcenous lintball broke into my car and stole them and a bunch of other stuff. I wound up buying the ASA Eclipse headset. They're really comfortable and very light for their size. They seem to have deeper cups than Dave Clarks. I've used DCs and they're okay, but I do like th Eclipse better. They're also not so expensive. (Are they still on the Market?)
I'd advise buying a cheaper pair, using them for a while to see what characteristics seem important to you and then rationalize your way into buying a hot new set for yourself and keeping the "old" ones for your favorite passenger. Okay...long post on a small subject. BTW I'm still looking at buying a plane this spring... The Coupes are still at the top of my list.(second is a 150, followed by a Tomahawk--no nasty comments...please :-) Now, I just need to find a good, all metal bird with rudder pedals at a decent price.
