Ditto on removing free play from controls.  My Alon feels much better
after
replacing two rod end bearings and the control column bushings.  

By the way, another place to remove play is in the mixer casting under the
floor. Because it's a casting, you can't just "honk down" on the bolts
attaching the control rod end bearings.  A few judiciously placed shims
between the bearings and the casting will remove play from this source.
