Steve: The requirement to remove the fuel pump top cover and inspect the fuel pump screen and pump for contamination is contained in AD 81-07-06. This is an annual requirement and from my experience is often overlooked. When a friend of mine purchased his Alon, the mechanic removed the top cover of the pump and screen there was a copious amount of corrosion present. Fortunately he was able to clean it out. The cork gasket should be replaced along with the bolt gasket and the top cover torqued to a value of 30 +/- 5 inch pounds and of course safety wired. The first time I had mine inspected the mechanic did not properly torque the bolt which eventually lead to partial pump failure so it is critical as someone else indicated. Skyport Services sells a fuel pump gasket kit and will furnish a copy of the AD. You can reach them at 800-624-5312. Ask for Lee. They also sell the 30 gallon STC someone mentioned in one of the earlier postings.
