Jack, I don't remember just how long it is, but as I remember, about 2 inches.... Seems like I must have read about it in the Continental manual, or in Coupe Capers... Yes it is soldered into the el. The trick is to mark it , so as to know where to driill the holes, which should be on the underside of the extension - to let liquid oil drain out.
I will try to find info about this - but I feel sure that most any "old timer" A&E would know about this Continental oil consumption fix. As you can imagine, with the engine rotation, oil is "slung" right into the crankcase vent fitting. It really looks like a design mistake. When you consider tho, that the case is the same for lower RPM engines, it must not have been a problem. Regards, Harry 93530
