Warren and group,
According to Ercoupe Information Letter #1, issued January 1, 1956:

Subject:  Conversion of Ercoupes to Later Models
"The Model 415-D Ercoupe was developed under FAA regulation Part No. 03, and permitted the gross weight of 1400 pounds on the Ercoupe under these regulations.  In order to obtain satisfactory stability conditions with power on, it was necessary to limit the up elevator travel to 9 degrees.  In the opinion of the factory, this limitation seriously affected landing qualities of the Ercoupe.  For this reason, the 415-CD was produced instead.  The CE had all the modifications other than the elevator travel necessary for 415-D, but was licensed under the 03 category, which still restricted to 1260 pounds.
"In order to convert a Model 415-CD to a Model D, it is necessary to limit the up elevator to 9 degrees, add placards to the instrument panel prohibiting smoking and prohibiting aerobatics, and require that the airplane be flown in accordance with limitations in the Approved Flight Manual.  It is necessary to supply the suitable flight manual as well"

There is more in the letter about converting a CD to an E Model, and converting a C to a D or an E.  The letter is near the back of the Ercoupe Memoranda and Service Bulletins book sold by Univair and Skyport.

Before the sh** hit the fan today, I was asking about what is a 46 CD. What was the intent of the change.

I was mailed a comment about my last post. About ser # of 47 CD and Ds.

It said in part that I was set in my thinking and that there was no need in the party trying to enlighten me.

Not so. What I have is from J Dyer at Univair back in 1986. That was when 3800H became our first airplane.

If it is wrong then please tell me how and where your info is from. I was only 3 years old when this took place. I have no first hand info. Fred is got so I cant get it from him.

I received this mail off line so I felt that the party wanted to keep it off the list. That is fine. But I hope that this being a forum of Info that we can have and openness to learn more.

I dont hunt or fish anymore. I dont like boats. I enjoy the Ercoupe as a way to fine peace of mind while doing some that I really enjoy.

3802H was the third CD off the line. Eds airplane is now a D as I understand it?? Ed ?? On landings it is still listed as a CD. Ed what is it?? Dose the AW certcall it a Dor a CD. What about the data plate? Do they read the same?

Is it OK to have them read different? What is in the Log Book??

We read here all the time about the need to have your ts crossed and the is dotted.Warren H
