My rough budget:

 780 hangar ($65 / month fully enclosed)
 680 insurance (full coverage with hull @ 13k)
 700 annual inspection (sometimes less allowing improvements;
             once $5,000 when fixing backlog of maintenance
----
2160 to say I own a plane
1300 flying (hour related costs based on $2.00 / gal @ 4.5 gph puttering
             and reserve for overhaul figured based on 100 hours/year)
====
3460 Grand total, U.S. dollars. It gets a lot better per hour if you
fly more.

1300 Value of lost income due to investing in Coupe rather than a stock
             index fund. Coupes dollar value doesn't keep up with
inflation,
             nor does it depreciate rapidly like a car.
====
4700 Total dollar cost of this game.

Used to pay for this by being an Army Reservist. Now I'm retired from
the Reserves and feeling the financial pain. As a retired reservist, I
won't receive any pension until I'm 60, but in the mean time I'm
eligible to receive a personalized invitation from Uncle for any parties
he might like to hold.
