Coupers: Day one is drawing to a close without incident, if you call
not
being hyper/EXCITED without incident. We got off a little late, my fault,
but
were still able to get the fly in at Cannon Creek in time for breakfast. I

lost track, but I believe that there were 8 other Ercoupes/Alons there
also.
After eating and gawking at the other Coupes, we headed for Americus, GA,
with a quick stop for fuel at Swaunee County for fuel. We landed at
Souther
Field, where Lindbergh bought his first Jenny and flew solo for the first
time, at about 1:30PM. I let the line guys fuel the Coupe and what I
though
couldn't happen-Yup, the fuel tank cap was put on backwards!
After a few minutes thinking our great adventure was now on hold, we were
able to gently lift the seal, and with pressure in the right place, turn
the
cap back off. I won't make that mistake again.
We made it to the Andersonville National Historical Site. Wow! I must
admit
that I never realized, or thought for that matter, how terrible the
conditions were for the thousands of prisoners of the civil war. Records
show
that just short of 50,000 people
died in the prison camps during that short three year period. It was very
sobering looking at these and other facts concerning our POWs. Things have

really changed now that we have wars of machines against machines instead
of
hand to hand combat.
It turns out that Andersonville has a Memorial Day weekend celebration to
commemorate those poor souls. They have a fair and lots of small stands
selling all sorts of things as well as a few kiddy rides and a reenactment
of
a cvil war battle.
After the ten year old soaked up an hours worth of swimming pool water, we

rested and recapped our first day on the road.
I reviewed the EOC list for GA and did not find any Coupers near Americus.

The excitement is winding down slowly now, but it was still a good first
day.
