We had a business trip down to Hagerstown scheduled for this week,
so I rehearsed a bit in the 172 we contemplated taking. In the end, the
weather crapped out on us.

Anyway, I was just amazed at how awful that Skyhawk felt compared
to the Ercoupe. And this was a VERY good 172P, with THE smoothest
O-320 known to man and THE least play in the controls. Owned by a
very particular A&P. Best one I've ever flown.

Still... ...after the 'Coupe it felt like an utter piece of crap. Slow on
the
controls, distant, disconnected, Reluctant to go up when asked, but
even with all those flaps, too much like a kite and too slow to come
down.

Does for the joy of flying what a Buick does for the joy of driving.

After I flew the 172, I took the 'Coupe up to take some aerial shots
of a friend's retirement party. What a relief!
