Greetings everyone. It has been some time since you have all heard from
me in any postings. It is time that I make notice of a recent incident
involving Ercoupe N87284 S/N 457. If anyone recalls I had been
searching for parts to continue it restoration. The aircraft has been
in storage for some time now. I recently recovered the aircraft so I
could begin it's restoration. Upon arriving at the airport where it was
stored, I climbed aboard to asses its condition. I immediatly notice
the control yokes had been removed. Although not visiable to me at that
time, I assumed they had been stolen. I did locate them later in the
tail of the airplane! I then noticed the fuel cap and float missing
from the Header tank. A piece of leather was in it's place covering the
hole that should have been occupied by the filler neck of the header
tank. Thinking the tank was installed I removed the leather piece to
look into the tank, only to find that I was looking at the belly skin of
the plane! The header tank had been stolen!!!
Noticing also that the cowling was very loose, I looked into the
engine compartment. Low and behold the nose gear and engine mount had
been removed and replaced with an unusable nose gear and a bent and
twisted engine mount!!!. The engine had been removed prior to my
purchasing the aircraft, So I was not expecting to find an engine under
the cowl. By this time I was very angry. I am sure that anyone that has
had that happen to them would be angry as well.
Well I guess at this point the aircraft is going back into storage
untill I can put together enough money to repurchase the new parts. And
as most of you know the header tank, float gauge and cap are no longer
in production for that early of an Ercoupe.
I wish you all Happy Landings.

Ercoupe N87284 S/N 457
