I saw the most marvelous airplane the other day. I was down at Lake
Powell in my boat. I looked up to the roar of a large twin engine
amphibious aircraft. It circled over Bullfrog Bay, and ended up landing
in Halls creek bay. I couldn't help myself, so along with around 500
other small craft, we headed over to Halls. There, anchored in the
water, was the most pristine beautiful floater I've ever seen. It was a
Grumman. Folks there called her the Grumman Goose. Don't know if the
Goose was an actual model, or just the nick name for that one. Anyway,
I checked her out really close. This is a large twin engine aircraft
with the wing tip floats. Between the wing floats and the engines, I
could see a pod hanging there on each side. On careful examination, I
finally realized that these were personal water craft (wave runners).
They were winched up with cables, and fit nicely into the pod so that
the only think showing was the hull of each craft. The side cargo door
lowered down and made a landing platform about 6 inches above the water,
and to the front of this door a ladder went up the side to the roof of
the plane. Out waltzed three hard bodies in skimpy string bikinis,
climbed the ladder and laid out to sun tan on top of the wings. I
understand the inside is made up about the same as a Winnebago motor
home. All in all, a marvelous airplane. But of course, I'd never trade
my Coupe for it. No sir not me. Never. No way. Nada.
