You've identified the correct thought, Glen.

I have heard of Coupes flipping over after a forced landing. It can
happen. But it is rare.

If I ever find myself gliding down to a forced landing in a plowed field
or trees or something similarly bad, and have the choice of:

a. No shoulder harness and a BIG chance of banging my face into the
instrument panel, "crack the whip" from the waist, in the case of sudden
deceleration. Remembering that a sudden deceleration is the only thing
that could cause the plane to flip over yet even this almost never flips
a Coupe (Wild Ass Guess = 95% DON'T flip).

Guess 3 bullets in the six shooter for serious injury or death.

or

b. Shoulder harness and no major trauma to my body in most sudden
deceleration stops. (Exceptions: flip or very nose-down impact which is
unsurvivable anyway)

Guess 1 bullet in the six shooter for serious injury or death.

Which situation, a. or b., would I choose for playing Russian Roulette?
Bet you get it in one try.

And in which situation do I expect to be uninjured enough to get MYSELF
out of there in case of fire? Again, I bet you get the answer in one
try.

Ed Burkhead
(survivor of 55 mph impact with a guard rail with seat belt and shoulder
harness with NO injuries -- and still remembering the appearance of that
steering wheel four inches from my face at the peak of the impact force)
