The members only section is intended to be a value-added feature of being a club member. We are not in competition with the club, ercoupe.org IS the club. We hope for the public pages to be the presentation to the world of what Coupes are, why we like them, and how much fun they can be. As an extra service to the members of the club, we have things accumulated by the effort of the club and are making them more easily available to club members. > I thought it was just me!! I too find it a onerous process for something I > am already a member of. I guess I'm signed on to so many services I don't think twice about that stuff any more. With a person's name, they could find out stuff about you that's LOTS more important than the name of your favorite sports team and birth date. (And that search would likely produce your mother's maiden name, the full names and social security numbers of all your kids, etc., etc.) I have a little bit of bogus information I give some security systems, I just try to pick it so I can remember it when I reset my forgotten password and they ask me for "my mother's maiden name". We are _not_ wedded to MSN. But we don't have the staff to program a security system that would allow us to have a members-only section as a value-added feature for members. MSN is free and has the security. We, also, don't particularly like their security or their web site structure -- suggestions for better places WILL be evaluated including non-free host systems! This is in no way a reflection of the people who > have worked long and hard to bring us a web site,( I appreciate your efforts > for all of us). But, still, compared to AOPA and even EAA web sites, it > seems rather intrusive; unnecessary; and a lot of gratis advertising for > Microsoft, that should not be necessary for an Ercoupe Owners Web site. We, the staff, thank you for not blaming us too much. We're just muddling along in the evenings after our day jobs. MSN is free and has some features that are useful. Free sites naturally come with ads. For example, they have tools to let section editors update their sections without knowing ANY internet HTML or other weird techie stuff. Again, we aren't wedded to MSN. Information about alternate hosts with friendlier security is welcome. For now, we encourage members to give them your birth date and the name of your favorite sports team (or the one you hate most) and come visit the members-only section. It's just a starter set, forever under construction, but we want to provide what services we can.
