----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----Patrick, let's see. First, he's got it backwards. It's not a great cross country plane, but I think it's great for sightseeing. Put the canopy down, or up overhead, stick your elbow out the window, and just enjoy life. Second, yes, it's better to have a wider runway than a Cub. That's because the distance between the wheels is greater. As noted in a previous post, make certain the runway is at least 8'1" wide, or the wheels won't fit. Other than that, I've seen no need for anything wider than any other plane needs. Third, Land Short? Well, as my brakes are exceptional, I can land just as short as locked up brakes will allow me to from 65-70 mph touch down to full stop. But, if I could touch down at 45-50, I'd stop even faster. Speeds over the threshold are a little fast, as there are no flaps, but needing a strong Stomach? Naw. Fourth, Climb out on a hot day? Who fly's on hot days. Sounds like great advice. He also made the following comments about flying a 'Coupe that seem to make good sense. Can anyone comment? Thanks. 1. "...a great cross country plane, but it is not as good for sightseeing as the wings block the view and especially because it won't slow down like a Cub will."2. It is best to fly the Ercoupe off a wide runway, especially if you have much wind."3. An Ercoupe can "land very short, but it takes a strong stomach as the speeds over the threshold are pretty darn fast."4. "Climb with 2 people is scary on a hot day."
