I carry a little peice of nylon cord with loops tied in the ends and hook one end on the prop turned vertical and the other end I hook on one of the Dzus fastiners on the cowl.  Work pretty good and doesn't cost a hundred bucks.

Subject: [COUPERS] Cowl Support

I would like to have a means of supporting the cowl while inspecting the engine, checking the oil, etc.  I'm not interested in the small doors that are available from Skyport, I like to be able to look everything over during the pre-flight.  Univair has a "cowl Support Kit"  that costs a little over a hundred dollars, and I was wondering if anyone has it installed, what it consists of, and do you like it.

Thanks,
