I'd like to reiterate the point that "you have to go a lot faster to
unstall that
wing."
We are all familiar with the angle of attack vs. Lift diagram = how
Lift
increases
with the angle of attack until the critical angle is reached. The "rest
of
the story"
on those diagrams is that they are produced like they are plotted - from
low angle
of attack (alpha in most all the literature) to high. IF YOU PLOTTED IT
THE
OTHER WAY, from high angle (like 90 derees = flat on to the wind) to zero,
THE CRITICAL ANGLE, WHERE YOU START FLYING, is LOTS lower. It is
call hysterisis, I believe, and there can be considerable. It is this
time
to reattach
the airflow in which YOU ARE HEADED FOR THE GROUND, which is quite hard.
Hince, airfoils that resist the stall (like the Ercoupe) can be hard to
unstall if
they become so. Yes, Vortex Generators do help low-speed lift. I like my
`coupe like it is.
