Actually Syd, gotta tell ya, *Redmond* is the home of Lancair :) Now I know you live in Bend and all but Lancair's on this side of the canal ;) Actually PAC is in Bend, was just over there this afternoon getting my exhaust belted flat. Boy they sure have a big building. I got a tour and its totally empty other than for some work going on in one end. They'll be able to put out great planes though. The Columbia is pretty sharp.
Point of rumor about Lancair- from what I hear from the elderly locals around here Lance copied his designs off his uncle's planes the Meyers 145 and 200 (2 place and 4 place). I think the Meyers is now the Micco designs. >From what I've been told Lance Neibauer isn't an engineer but an artist and just took the same dimensions and made it swoopy and out of plastic. Of course this may just be a rumor, who knows. You can see where my favors lie- metal planes! IMHO (and I'll probably get flamed for this) no homebuilder should be building a glass plane- too many variables and no way to quality check the finished product (how does the homebuilder find that crack in a thick spar cap without UT, X-ray, etc.?). With metal if it looks good it usually is but not so with glass. But I'm totally in favor of PAC and what they are doing- the Columbia is a great plane with great performance. Whoa, guess I better get back to Coupes. What started all this anyway??! As soon as I get my plane back together and flying I'll take you up Syd. Maybe we can fly over to the Oregon meeting coming up here shortly.
