Dallas, Just goes to show you that we all should have printed check lists ---AND USE THEM.
My valve is safety wired open.... I have often wondered what I would do if I had to quickly close it ! But, still have left it safetied open. Perhaps I should use my written check list. I might even rewire the valve open with smaller wire.. Glad you made it home. A failure I have seen several times is that on annual , the required cleaning of the fuel pump screen - which requires removal of the pump cover, cleaning, and replacement. I have seen several coupes fail to pump after replacement of the cap due to improper touqueing of the attachment bolt. Too loose, the cap allows air to be sucked in, instead of fuel from the wing tanks... Just a "Heads UP". The inspection is necessary (AD) due to the possibility of capturing water from the wing tank fuel supply. If water is captured, it sets there corroding the pump housing, and if cold weather can freeze, expand, and fracture the pump housing. My cointinued suggestion is to install a gascollator between the wing tank and the fuel pump, to prevent water from entering the pump. Then one would not have to dissasemble the top of the pump for cleaning and have the chance of sucking air and pump failure. ( and the $40 gasket set + labor). I still have not done this on my coupe -along with 337's, but seems to make sense to me. Regards, Fluy Safe - Have Fun Harry Francis 93530 Blacksburg, VA
