The coupes originally came with regular, not the longer shielded  type,
spark plugs in the top of the cylinders.  Mine still has the original non
shielded plugs which are encased in special (antique) low height plug
cases which are not  tall enough to require more top cowling clearance. 
If one has changed his or her ignition harness to the new type and uses
the longer shielded plugs in the top spark plug holes, then clearance
holes must be cut in the cowling and the eyebrows are installed to cover
the holes and plugs.
