thanks for the answer, i did this today (and finally the folder shows up 
in thunderbird - this time under #shared). ich removed the 
etc/maildirshared file and created an index file in etc/shared/index, 
containing one line for the global shared folder. then i recreated the 
maildirs without the maildirmake special parameters. the folder does not 
belong to a virtual user as i wanted it to be global (i.e no login 
exists for a user with that home directory in the authentication 
database). then i issued
/usr/lib/courier/bin/maildiracl -set /var/lib/courier/shared/Maildir/ 
INBOX.common anyone aceilrstwx
on the folder which should give anyone full access to the shared mail 
directory (which it does). still, the actual disk file if i delete a 
message or move it elsewhere (out of the shared folder) remains in cur. 
the only thing that changes is, that the filename is added a T in the 
end. what am i still missing?
