It looks like bincimap and courier-imap use different folder structures.
courier-imap uses
[MAILDIRPATH]/{cur,new,tmp} for INBOX
[MAILDIRPATH]/.folder-name/{cur,new,tmp} for INBOX.folder-name
If you don't want to reorganise your storage you could try setting
MAILDIRPATH=IMAPdir/INBOX to get access to the INBOX, but then you may
lose access to all other folders.
I think a storage reorg is going to be unavoidable.
courier-imap's use of maildir folders is defined at

(scroll down to the "Mission statement" for Maildir++)
I don't know if bincimap has a similar document for its structure.
