OK, so you don't get the pam detail. Maybe /var/log/auth.log or something
will have that.

In any case, what does your /etc/pam.d/imap say? Are you trying both system
authentication and winbind authentication? If so, try removing the system
authentication. You don't _really_ have two distinct groups of users, those
who authenticate via /etc/passwd, and those who authenticate via Windows?
