Hi,

I am trying to set up a webmail facility for my company using courier and
postgresql. I am currently facing the following problems:

I am getting an authentication failure whenever i try to login using the
webmail interface. I have set up the pgsql database in the way suggested by
the mysql help page included with the courier tarball, except that the 'key'
field is just 'id', not 'id(id(128))' as suggested in the help page. Could
this be a problem with the 'crypt' and 'clear' options described in the
install doc ? Anyway, what exactly is the difference between these options ?
Is one more secure than the other or what? Please note that the only
authentication module that i have allowed in the authdaemondrc file is
'authpgsql'.

I intend to create virtual mail users exclusively. ie, no actual login based
mail. In that case, how exactly do i add users? by inserting one line into the
database table for each user? is there some way to do that in a less
pedestrian way? such as a script or something?

Though I have tried to set things up in such a way that only the pgsql
database, which contains the virtual user's names, should be used for
authentication, i am able to *send* mail from an actual user's login without
any form of authentication, using the courier version of sendmail. Does this
mean that I cant prevent actual user's from sending mail even if they are not
listed in the virtual users' database?

When i try to send mail from an actual user's login to a virtual user's
mailbox using the courier version of sendmail, there are no error messages,
but the mail doesnt reach the intended recipient's mailbox. When i look up
/var/log/maillog, I find this message : File does not exist. I have created a
directory /home/virtual/sachu/Maildir , where sachu is the virtual user's
name, and inserted a row corresponding to sachu in the pgsql database, with
/home/virtual/sachu specified as the value for the 'home' column.
/home/virtual/sachu/Maildir is owned by user 'courier', which is the user as
which courier runs.

Phew! That was a long one. Please help me with these problems. Thanks in
advance.
