Hi Robert,
Thanks for your reply.
I am stuffed if I can get this to work.
I see that the Docs on smtpaccess mention that if you authenticate with
esmtp then "RELAYCLIENT" is set.

With a default /etc/courier/esmtpd file (with the esmtpdstart=yes) I get the
dreaded relaying denied.

It looks like outlook is not even trying to authenticate....

SMTP: 22:14:13 [rx] 220 mail.comlease.com.au ESMTP
SMTP: 22:14:13 [tx] EHLO mustang
SMTP: 22:14:13 [rx] 250-mail.comlease.com.au Ok.
SMTP: 22:14:13 [rx] 250-STARTTLS
SMTP: 22:14:13 [rx] 250-XVERP=Courier
SMTP: 22:14:13 [rx] 250-XEXDATA
SMTP: 22:14:13 [rx] 250-XSECURITY=NONE,STARTTLS
SMTP: 22:14:13 [rx] 250-PIPELINING
SMTP: 22:14:13 [rx] 250-8BITMIME
SMTP: 22:14:13 [rx] 250-SIZE
SMTP: 22:14:13 [rx] 250 DSN
SMTP: 22:14:13 [tx] MAIL FROM: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
SMTP: 22:14:13 [rx] 250 Ok.
SMTP: 22:14:13 [tx] RCPT TO: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
SMTP: 22:14:14 [rx] 513 Relaying denied.
SMTP: 22:14:14 [tx] QUIT
SMTP: 22:14:22 [rx] 221 Bye.

That is after I check the box "My server requires authentication" for the
outgoing server.

If I enable "require authentication" in webadmin for esmtp, I get the
following:

SMTP: 21:56:53 [rx] 220 mail.cyberpro.com.au ESMTP
SMTP: 21:56:53 [tx] EHLO mustang
SMTP: 21:56:53 [rx] 250-mail.cyberpro.com.au Ok.
SMTP: 21:56:53 [rx] 250-STARTTLS
SMTP: 21:56:53 [rx] 250-XVERP=Courier
SMTP: 21:56:53 [rx] 250-XEXDATA
SMTP: 21:56:53 [rx] 250-XSECURITY=NONE,STARTTLS
SMTP: 21:56:53 [rx] 250-PIPELINING
SMTP: 21:56:53 [rx] 250-8BITMIME
SMTP: 21:56:53 [rx] 250-SIZE
SMTP: 21:56:53 [rx] 250 DSN
SMTP: 21:56:53 [tx] MAIL FROM: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
SMTP: 21:56:53 [rx] 535 Authentication required.
SMTP: 21:56:53 [tx] QUIT
SMTP: 21:57:01 [rx] 221 Bye.

============================
The config I really need to work is:

Server will accespt esmtp for the localdomain from untrusted IP's
Server will accept mail for relaying to a foriegn domain from the LAN
(Trusted IP's)
OK, so far easy, just use /etc/courier/smtpaccess/default and set local net
to allow,relayclient

People from untrusted IP's can authenticate somehow and then relay mail.
I could do this with a VPN, but is would seem a reasonable thing to do just
with some type of authentication or encryption.

It looks like I will need to enable ESMTP with TLS and set "require
authentication" (leaving the standard port 25 daemon alone) however I could
not get outlook express to work with this enabled after trying every
combination of "authenticate" "secure password authentication" or "SSL"

I would **REALLY** like to see your /etc/courier/esmtpd file.....

Thanks for your help.
Ian
