MailMonitor (MM) listens on port 25, filters and forwards mail to your SMTP server which can be on the same machine if you move it to listen on another port. Early versions of MM would forward mail to anybody (open relay), but the current version (1.2) will forward to your nominated SMTP server only. > On what I can get from the docs I see these: > - I can't filter access to the MailMonitor from the outside world >(well, if I need to receive email I need the SMTP server to talk to the >world); MM will accept a connection from anybody. If you want to restrict access you'll have to do that with Courier. For example, I use BOFH to reject mail from known spammers. > - It can only deliver to one machine then I can't setup it to be my >outgoing smtp server; You can send outgoing mail to MM which will filter then forward to Courier for sending. Perhaps my comments above clarify. Basically think of MM as filtering all input to Courier. Courier has no idea MM is there and just does its thing as usual. > I'm right on this? > > I'm thinking on using courier because of it's authmodules (MySQL, >LDAP) and virtual mail aproach... but I'm thinking on setup a sendmail / >postfix / qmail, with AMAVIS acting like MailMonitor to secure courier! > I used to use qmail but switched completely to Courier. I have noticed in this forum some people having trouble bolting bits of Courier on to qmail. I would recommend ditching qmail entirely and use Courier for everything. hth.
