No, as I stated earlier, the password change does take about 35-40 seconds
to complete.

We are not using a standard passwd program.  We have written a custom one
that has to contact a remote administration system which in turn has to
contact a number of other systems for password updates.  It is grossly
inelegant, but it's what we're stuck with right now (due to number of
completely different authentication schemes we're asked to support, gotta
love inherited systems).

Still haven't had the chance to recompile yet.
