Hi Sam, I've been testing this version of courier now for 2 days. I must say that I am quite pleased with this new setting. It works as you have documented, and is perfect for large backlogs. As long as courier keeps hitting the high watermark, the timer is triggered, and it ensures that the queue is promptly refilled. And in case courier manages to deliver messages much faster and hits the low watermark before the timer expires, the queue is again promptly refilled. I think that this improved queue-handling, together with per-host concurrency limits and connection caching makes courier-MTA much more capable of handling high loads quite efficiently. This problem helped me understand courier's queue handling much better, and I also appreciate your speedy response with a solution.
