Upgrading to the current version of Courier gives me errors about missing fam. This has been discussed here already.
Well my distribution comes with fam, so just starting the daemon and everything is fine but .... as probably many of the Courier (and qmail) users, I use tcpserver instead of inetd for performance and security reasons. Because httpd and ftpd run as standalone, I have switched off inetd completely. As fam needs portmap, and portmap isn't available because inetd isn't running things, are a little bit more complicated. How are you dealing with that? Just do nothing and ignoring the errors about fam? Then Courier probably shouldn't install fam support by default. Start portmap with tcpserver. Could you post your working tcpserver configuration? That would make life easier for me and others. Courier INSTALL should probably give some help for this. Switch on inetd just to get portmap and fam running? Thanks for your comments?
