hi there everybody,

i am trying to send an email to a local account on a server i run which
uses courier-mta

the host name of the machine is freeway.serversure.net and this has been
set in /etc/courier/default.domain

That better be /etc/courier/defaultdomain

and /etc/courier/locals

and courier was restarted.

could someone please explain why this message has relaying denied. do i
have to add the domain to esmtpacceptmail.for/domains?

Yes you do (again taking into account the mistyped filename).

i thought that local machine emails would be accepted by default?

It is, except that your example is not a locally-generated message. Read the headers again.
