and for good measure:

/usr/lib/courier/etc# grep -v "^#\|^$" aliases/system

/usr/lib/courier/etc#

I've also made sure that makealiases, makeuserdb, and makehosteddomains have
been run since their last edit...any other guesses?  Sam?
