 - I installed courier-authlib-0.50
 - I installed courier-0.47

courier-0.47 does not require authlib.

Well, of course I'm inclined to believe you but....

 - I distinctly remember the courier RPM saying that courier-authlib was
required

courier 0.48 requires authlib.

 - I have to be using courier-authlib because I made some modifications to
courier-authlib (with your assistance), namely a section that allows me to
update a field in a database when a client successfully authenticates via
authlibmysql

Well how about this....is there any possible damage from just running
courier-0.47 + courier-authlib + postfix as opposed to courier-imap +
authlib + postfix? Do those spare processes pose any potential danger?

courier 0.47 does not use authlib.

And, no.
