Hello all,

I hope this is the right place for me to ask for help with building the RPMs
from courier-0.53.3.tar.bz2 on CentOS 4.4. I'm relatively new to Linux so
please forgive me if this problem is really simple to solve - in fact, I
hope it is.

The problem I'm having is that, whenever I try to build the RPMs using the
command 'rpmbuild -ta courier-0.53.3.tar.bz2', I get the following error:
'error: Failed build dependencies: /usr/include/fam.h is needed by
courier-0.53.3-1.i386'.

I have installed FAM on the system, but instead of creating a fam.h file in
/usr/include/ it was created in /usr/local/include/ and the Courier rpmbuild
process doesn't seem to like that. Thinking an update might solve the
problem (I told you I'm a newbie) I ran yum update. When I did that FAM was
removed and replaced by gamin 0.1.1 release 4.EL4 - which is described by
'yum info gamin' as a 'Library providing the FAM File Alteration Monitor
API'.

Is it OK to build and install the Courier RPMs without FAM on the system by
using the --nodeps option in rpmbuild, or will doing that make the
installation of Courier fail? If I need FAM on the system to use Courier
can someone give me some indication as to how I can get this to install in
the correct place (/usr/include/) or should gamin do the same job?

Many thanks for your help.

Take care,
Tim.
