Chris, this is quite possibly one of the most eloquent things I've heard or read this year. I'm smack in the middle of The Audacity of Hope at the moment and boy can Barack Obama string a phrase. You're challenging him with this. I have the benefit of essentially being raised by my Mum - Dad was present but emotionally absent and then sick when I needed him most as a young man. Her influence made me a person who celebrates diversity in whatever flavor it comes and you've really hit the same spot. Well done.
