Howdy Everybody! So, a number of people here have asked here, online and offline, how IndyHall markets itself. Nitty gritty aside, I wanted to share a resource that drives the vast majority of my high level approach to what we've done related to "community marketing".
Thanks to Tara's introduction to the book in late 2006, The Cluetrain Manifesto didn't really change, but instead validated a good deal of what I thought was wrong with business and where it was headed. Cluetrain's vision was very internet-centric, but I think that its core values carry through to offline businesses as well. It's been central to a the majority of my approach to everything I've ever done in business, IndyHall and otherwise. AAAAAANYWAY it's become apparent to me that *not a lot of people* have read The Cluetrain Manifesto! For those unfamiliar with the book, it's based on 95 theses about how the internet is returning voice and humanity to business as it's come to be. Given the advent of "social media", the theses are more relevant now than ever before. And given all of your interests in a business that hinges on community, you *should* be interested in what this book has to say. The problem with the cluetrain, besides the fact that none of the local Barnes and Nobles' carry it, is that the case studies it outlines are now 10 years old. Which, in internet terms, is an eternity. So, starting at the beginning of this year, I took on my own writing project: I've been moving through the 95 theses, one per weekday, until I've hit every single one. I'm just wrapping up week 3, pushing Thesis #20 live tonight at midnight. I've already had really positive feedback from a lot of people, including the 4 original authors of The Cluetrain. I can consider this project "open research" for a more carefully edited version of a book I hope to write in the 2nd half of the year...so your participation in this project can really have a positive effect on the outcome of that book. I greatly appreciate feedback, comments, sharing of links, etc with your friends, colleagues, space members, etc. You can check out the progress, subscribe via RSS or email, etc. at this page: http://www.dangerouslyawesome.com/cluetrain-a-day-social-graces-for-business-and-technology-in-2009/or subscribe to the RSS for the whole site, since I do post more than just for this project.
