Here in Xindanwei, we started by talking to friends and networks who are organizing meetups already or want to organize meetups to offer them space, as the space maker, I find if particularly important that you don't get yourself too much in the content and organizational work of a meetup because it will occupy too much time and energy, you should spend your time on managing this " platform" of meetups and events. So far we have received so many applications from everywhere so every weekend is packed with interesting events with amazing content, and they are diverse too(wouldn't come out one person's mind). My favorite ones are Barcamp Shanghai 2009, Dorkbot Shanghai and Urban Research Lab.
http://barcampshanghai.org/cgi-bin/page.pl http://xindanwei.com/events/dorkbot-shanghai-1 http://urbanresearchlab.net/ We do have criteria's to select these events, but the most important criteria is that the interest of our members/potential members. And don't forget as the sponsor of the space, you deserve to be promoted via these meetup organizers network, just don't be shy to ask for placing your logo in their website, mechandising and promotional materials... Hope this advice is useful. Good luck with your new space!
