Jerome, I find a windowless environment pretty oppressive. Yes, street noise spills in. We are on the ground floor, and so passers-by are always peering in wondering what is going in our space. But those distractions are minor compared to the closed-in feeling I have when I can't see outside.
Light is important. Artificial lighting, no matter how much it tries to emulate sunlight, just isn't the same, and doesn't feel that same.
