Cohere coworking provides 24/7 access/trust from the moment someone becomes a member. As long as they have a tour or free day before joining, they get the same access on day 1 as any existing member. We are now 7 years old and have zero instances of anything going wrong. One time a weird dry erase marker stain appeared on some carpet but who knows how/why. I don't know if our model works because our community is smaller and everyone can easily know everyone else. Prospective members often inquire about security and I honestly don't even know what to say to them. I usually point to my desk that has a computer, all the keys to the space, some cash and some checks in an unlocked drawer and say that it's all been there for 7 years and nothing has ever gone missing...
For Cohere Bandwidth, our shared musician's rehearsal space. We have a few more layers but only because music gear is notoriously stolen and we've got about $50,000 in gear just sitting there. First, we met with the police officers who are on patrol in our neighborhood. We explained what our biz is--musicians coming and going at odd and late hours and that if they ever saw someone hauling a BUNCH of gear out, that's bad. Second, we require bands to register for an account. We review their account details like the band's facebook page, address and email address to determine if they seem legit. Over 2 years we have not activated 2 accounts that look like spam or are fake. Third, a staff person meets each band for their first rehearsal but bands are completely independent for any followup rehearsals--no staff, no nothing. Fourth, There are 2 layers of keycoded doors to get to the gear. Fifth, there is a camera in the lobby but it's just for looks and for review if something does go missing. We have had 2 guitar pedals stolen and we never recovered them. That stung and the general feeling among our customers was "fuck, that really sucks--what musician steals from other musicians?!" Due to that we have implemented a daily gear check by staff so that if something does go missing, we would know about it within 24 hours, have those people on film and have a record of what keycode was used during that time so we could narrow it down to only 2-4 bands.
