Thanks for the reply.

I don't think this has anything to do with the windows archive extractor
(WinRAR).
The same problem occurs on linux using both the tar command line extractor
and the ARK gui. The only difference between the windows and linux
extractions are that linux removes the 0000644 from the file names.
The names are wrong on both platforms.
When viewing the archive contents the file names are wrong in the archive.
