If I remember correctly, marxism has had over a half century on one continent
(at least) and most of the natural resources of that area with which to
succeed, if it was going to succeed anywhere. Or was it simply the wrong
century? Or were there hints of corruption within the leadership--kinda like
capitalism, don't ya know? Is it possible that marxism does not make
sufficient allowances for human frailty?
Sorry, to be petty, but I grew up on readings of 'Animal Farm' (my uncle was
one of Joe McCarthy's little 'pinkoes', and I don't recall any of his cronies
as particularly noble. They were just ordinary working guys who came to
maturity in the depression, and were bitter and resentful after their service
in the war. If you think the Nam vets were done in--you should have heard
some of the few survivors of Anzio and Monte Cassino talk about the Italian
Church and the blackmarket priests. The Wild Ones legend was not based on
fairy tales. They were real guys who could no longer fit in anywhere other
than combat.
I'm running on here because I spent the day in a software seminar and the
instructor had been hit with Agent Orange in Nam, and his son was gassed in
Desert Storm.
We had an interesting conversation about military promises vs.military
betrayal.
