Since I have been debating this with Mark Jones on Marxmail, I feel Charles
would be the best one to comment on our differences re: the depth of the
"disenfranchisement" that has taken place in the USA.

CB: For at least 20 years, most of the people in the U.S. don't vote most of the time. 
The turnout in presidential elections is around 50%, and for state and local elections 
ususally less. Thus, the U.S. bourgeoisie had succeeded in alienating most voters 
before and without the recent Florida events.

So, the main disenfranchisement in the U.S. has been by a complex, Orwellian process 
resulting in auto-disenfranchisement, and the latest open disenfranchisement in 
Florida should be considered in this larger context and cynicism. 


I am still waiting to see how much the Florida coup generates new , mass struggle over 
this issue.
